Buttermilk Cornmeal Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sweet milk
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • Cornmeal (enough to roll into a half-inch thick sheet)

Method

  1. 1 Mix sweet milk, buttermilk, salt, baking soda, and melted butter in a bowl.
  2. 2 Add enough cornmeal to the mixture to form a dough that can be rolled out.
  3. 3 Roll the dough into a sheet half an inch thick.
  4. 4 Place the sheet on a buttered baking pan.
  5. 5 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) until brown and crisp, basting occasionally with melted butter.
  6. 6 Break the cake into pieces instead of cutting, and serve hot.
