Buttered Chestnut And Apple Mash

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chestnuts
  • 2-3 sour apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt to taste

Method

  1. 1 Score the chestnuts, wash them, and boil in water for 5-6 minutes. Peel off the shells and inner skins.
  2. 2 Return peeled chestnuts to fresh boiling water and simmer gently for 20-30 minutes until tender.
  3. 3 While chestnuts cook, boil diced apples until soft and mashed into a sauce.
  4. 4 Mash the cooked chestnuts finely and mix them thoroughly with the warm applesauce.
  5. 5 Stir a knob of butter into the mixture, serve warm.
