Butter Boiled Brussels Sprouts

Ingredients

  • Brussels sprouts, trimmed
  • Salt (1 tablespoon per 2 quarts water)
  • Sugar or a pea-sized piece of soda (optional, for hard water)
  • Butter
  • Pepper

Method

  1. 1 Trim the sprouts and place them in boiling water with salt. Add a little sugar or a pea-sized piece of soda if the water is hard.
  2. 2 Boil quickly with the lid off for 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the size and age of the sprouts, until tender.
  3. 3 Drain the sprouts thoroughly in a colander.
  4. 4 Return the sprouts to a dry saucepan with butter, pepper, and salt. Shake over heat for a minute and serve on a hot dish.
