Butter Boiled Brussels Sprouts
Ingredients
- Brussels sprouts, trimmed
- Salt (1 tablespoon per 2 quarts water)
- Sugar or a pea-sized piece of soda (optional, for hard water)
- Butter
- Pepper
Method
- 1 Trim the sprouts and place them in boiling water with salt. Add a little sugar or a pea-sized piece of soda if the water is hard.
- 2 Boil quickly with the lid off for 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the size and age of the sprouts, until tender.
- 3 Drain the sprouts thoroughly in a colander.
- 4 Return the sprouts to a dry saucepan with butter, pepper, and salt. Shake over heat for a minute and serve on a hot dish.
