Butter Basted Roasted Turkey With Dressing
Ingredients
- 1 poultry bird (turkey, chicken, or duck)
- Dressing (for stuffing)
- ½ cup butter
- ½ cup water
- Salt
- Pepper
- Soft butter (for rubbing)
Method
- 1 Clean poultry inside and out with cold water. Stuff with dressing.
- 2 Truss the bird by tying wings and legs securely with twine or skewers to maintain shape.
- 3 Rub the bird all over with soft butter and sprinkle generously with salt and pepper.
- 4 Place on a rack in a roasting pan and put into a very hot oven (425°F).
- 5 Prepare a basting mixture of ½ cup butter and ½ cup water. Keep hot and baste every 10-15 minutes.
- 6 Roast for 1-2 hours for chicken/duck or 3 hours for an 8-pound turkey. Cover with paper if browning too quickly.
