Brown Sugar Spice Cake With Currants
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup water or milk
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 cup currants or raisins, optional
Method
- 1 Preheat oven to 350°F.
- 2 Cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- 3 Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in water or milk.
- 4 Stir in flour, baking powder, and spices until combined.
- 5 Fold in currants or raisins if using.
- 6 Pour into a greased pan and bake for 30-35 minutes.
