Brown Sugar Glazed Ham With Cloves
Ingredients
- 10-12 lb ham
- 1½ lb brown sugar
- 1 pint cooking sherry
- 1 cup vinegar
- 1 cup molasses
- 1½ dozen whole cloves
Method
- 1 Scrub ham, soak in cold water overnight, then place in a large kettle covered with cold water.
- 2 Bring slowly to a boil, gradually adding molasses. Cook for 18 minutes per pound until done.
- 3 Remove ham from heat and let it cool completely in the cooking water.
- 4 Remove ham, peel skin, and stud with cloves. Rub brown sugar all over the surface.
- 5 Place in a roasting pan, pour sherry and vinegar over top, and bake until browned and warmed through, about 30 minutes.
