Brown Sugar Glazed Ham With Cloves

Ingredients

  • 10-12 lb ham
  • 1½ lb brown sugar
  • 1 pint cooking sherry
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1½ dozen whole cloves

Method

  1. 1 Scrub ham, soak in cold water overnight, then place in a large kettle covered with cold water.
  2. 2 Bring slowly to a boil, gradually adding molasses. Cook for 18 minutes per pound until done.
  3. 3 Remove ham from heat and let it cool completely in the cooking water.
  4. 4 Remove ham, peel skin, and stud with cloves. Rub brown sugar all over the surface.
  5. 5 Place in a roasting pan, pour sherry and vinegar over top, and bake until browned and warmed through, about 30 minutes.
