Brown Sugar Crusted Ham

Ingredients

  • 1 ham
  • water
  • cracker crumbs
  • brown sugar
  • whole cloves
  • pepper
  • egg (optional)

Method

  1. 1 Soak the ham overnight or for several hours, then wash and scrape it thoroughly.
  2. 2 Place the ham in cold water, bring to a boil, then simmer for 20 minutes per pound.
  3. 3 Test for doneness by inserting a skewer; it should withdraw easily if done.
  4. 4 Let the ham cool slightly in the water, then remove and peel off the skin.
  5. 5 Sprinkle the top with cracker crumbs and brown sugar, or brush with egg, then press in whole cloves.
  6. 6 Brown in the oven for a few minutes, or leave white and dot with pepper and cloves.
