Brown Sugar Butter Scotch Candy

Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 egg-sized pat of butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Method

  1. 1 Combine brown sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil without stirring.
  2. 2 Boil until the mixture hardens on a spoon when tested in cold water.
  3. 3 Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla if using.
  4. 4 Pour onto buttered plates and mark into squares before it hardens.
