Brown Sugar Bread Pudding
Ingredients
- 3 cups breadcrumbs
- 1 quart hot milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon lemon extract
- Grated nutmeg to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 tablespoons Crisco
- Whipped cream
Method
- 1 Place Crisco, breadcrumbs, and salt in a basin. Add hot milk and soak for ten minutes.
- 2 Melt sugar in a small pan over fire and brown it lightly.
- 3 Add the browned sugar to the bread mixture along with well-beaten eggs and flavorings.
- 4 Pour into a Crisco-greased pudding dish and bake in a moderate oven (350°F) until firm.
- 5 Serve with whipped cream.
