Brown Sugar Bread Pudding

Ingredients

  • 3 cups breadcrumbs
  • 1 quart hot milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon lemon extract
  • Grated nutmeg to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Crisco
  • Whipped cream

Method

  1. 1 Place Crisco, breadcrumbs, and salt in a basin. Add hot milk and soak for ten minutes.
  2. 2 Melt sugar in a small pan over fire and brown it lightly.
  3. 3 Add the browned sugar to the bread mixture along with well-beaten eggs and flavorings.
  4. 4 Pour into a Crisco-greased pudding dish and bake in a moderate oven (350°F) until firm.
  5. 5 Serve with whipped cream.
