Brown Beef Stew With Drop Dumplings
Ingredients
- 2.5 lbs stewing beef, cut into 2-inch pieces
- Flour for coating
- Hot fat
- 3 pints boiling water
- 2 cups flour
- 0.5 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 0.75 cup cold water
Method
- 1 Cut beef into 2-inch pieces, roll in flour, and brown in hot fat.
- 2 Add 3 pints boiling water, bring to a boil, then cook slowly for 1 hour.
- 3 Mix 2 cups flour, pepper, salt, and baking powder. Add cold water to form a dough.
- 4 Make dough into balls and drop into the stew. Cover and boil fast for 12 minutes.
- 5 Remove lid and cook for 3 minutes longer. Season and serve.
