Bread and Butter Pudding With Currants

Ingredients

  • 2 oz currants
  • 4 slices thin bread and butter
  • 3 large eggs
  • 4 oz sugar
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 pint milk

Method

  1. 1 Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. 2 Wash and pick over the currants.
  3. 3 Place a few currants at the bottom of a quart-sized baking dish.
  4. 4 Layer the bread and butter slices with remaining currants between each layer.
  5. 5 Beat eggs (reserving one white), sugar, and nutmeg, then stir in milk.
  6. 6 Pour the mixture over the bread layers and bake for 45 minutes.
