Ingredients

  • ½ cup bran
  • 1½ cups flour
  • 5 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons shortening

Method

  1. 1 Mix bran, flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar thoroughly.
  2. 2 Add sufficient water to form a soft dough.
  3. 3 Add melted shortening and mix until combined.
  4. 4 Roll out lightly to ¼ inch thickness on a floured board.
  5. 5 Cut with a biscuit cutter.
  6. 6 Bake in a hot oven (425°F) for 12 to 15 minutes.
