Boiling Water Cornmeal Batter Bread
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp shortening
- 1 ½ cups cornmeal
- 2 ½ cups boiling water
- 1 ½ cups sour milk or water
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp baking powder
- 4 tbsp syrup or sugar
- 1 egg
Method
- 1 Place shortening and cornmeal in a mixing bowl.
- 2 Pour boiling water over the mixture.
- 3 Add sour milk, flour, salt, baking powder, syrup, and egg. Beat to mix.
- 4 Pour into a well-greased baking dish.
- 5 Bake in a hot oven (425°F) for 40 minutes.
