Boiled Cornmeal Mush With Nuts

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup cornmeal
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped raisins, peanuts, figs, dates, prunes, apricots, or coconut

Method

  1. 1 Combine boiling water, salt, and cornmeal in a saucepan.
  2. 2 Sift cornmeal into the water slowly while stirring to prevent lumps.
  3. 3 Move saucepan to the side of the stove and cook slowly for 30 minutes.
  4. 4 Serve hot as a cereal with honey and milk, or add optional dried fruits or nuts.
