Boiled Cabbage With Ham Or Corned Beef

Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • Ham, corned beef, or pork (optional)
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Salaeratus (optional)

Method

  1. 1 Place the cabbage in a pot with water and salt. If using meat, add it now. Skim the pot well to remove grease.
  2. 2 Boil for 30 minutes if the cabbage has been tendered by frost, or 1 hour if fresh. Add a little salaeratus if desired for color.
  3. 3 Remove the cabbage before it falls apart. Serve with the cooking liquid or meat.
