Boiled Cabbage With Ham Or Corned Beef
Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- Ham, corned beef, or pork (optional)
- Water
- Salt
- Salaeratus (optional)
Method
- 1 Place the cabbage in a pot with water and salt. If using meat, add it now. Skim the pot well to remove grease.
- 2 Boil for 30 minutes if the cabbage has been tendered by frost, or 1 hour if fresh. Add a little salaeratus if desired for color.
- 3 Remove the cabbage before it falls apart. Serve with the cooking liquid or meat.
