Biscuit Layer Strawberry Shortcake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • butter
  • crushed strawberries
  • sugar
  • whipped cream
  • powdered sugar

Method

  1. 1 Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar. Cut in shortening.
  2. 2 Beat egg into milk, then add to dry ingredients to form a soft dough.
  3. 3 Divide dough in half. Pat one half into a greased deep layer tin and spread with butter.
  4. 4 Cover with the second half of dough. Bake in a 425°F oven for 20-25 minutes.
  5. 5 Split the cake while hot. Layer with crushed sweetened berries and whipped cream.
  6. 6 Top with whipped cream and whole berries. Dust with powdered sugar and serve.
