Berry Split Cake
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 3 tablespoons shortening
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 quart berries
Method
- 1 Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar together in a bowl.
- 2 Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3 Add milk and stir until a soft dough forms.
- 4 Lightly smooth dough and place in a greased deep layer cake tin.
- 5 Bake in a 425°F oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
- 6 Split the cake while hot and spread with crushed, sweetened berries.
