Berry Split Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 quart berries

Method

  1. 1 Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar together in a bowl.
  2. 2 Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. 3 Add milk and stir until a soft dough forms.
  4. 4 Lightly smooth dough and place in a greased deep layer cake tin.
  5. 5 Bake in a 425°F oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
  6. 6 Split the cake while hot and spread with crushed, sweetened berries.
