Beef Stew With Carrots And Onions
Ingredients
- 4 pounds leg or shin of beef, cut into egg-sized pieces
- 1 tablespoon dripping fat (or beef tallow)
- 1 large handful all-purpose flour
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 onions, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Water, enough to cover the meat
Method
- 1 Heat dripping fat in a large saucepan or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
- 2 Fry beef pieces until browned on all sides.
- 3 Sprinkle flour over the meat and stir to coat evenly.
- 4 Add chopped carrots, onions, salt, and pepper.
- 5 Pour in enough water to cover the ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat.
- 6 Simmer gently for 1 hour and 30 minutes until tender.
