Beef Stew With Carrots And Onions

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds leg or shin of beef, cut into egg-sized pieces
  • 1 tablespoon dripping fat (or beef tallow)
  • 1 large handful all-purpose flour
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Water, enough to cover the meat

Method

  1. 1 Heat dripping fat in a large saucepan or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  2. 2 Fry beef pieces until browned on all sides.
  3. 3 Sprinkle flour over the meat and stir to coat evenly.
  4. 4 Add chopped carrots, onions, salt, and pepper.
  5. 5 Pour in enough water to cover the ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat.
  6. 6 Simmer gently for 1 hour and 30 minutes until tender.
