Bath Buns

Ingredients

  • 1 cake yeast
  • 2 cups warm water
  • flour (enough for moderately stiff sponge)
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup lukewarm milk
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 eggs, well beaten

Method

  1. 1 Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add flour to make a stiff sponge and let rise for 2 hours.
  2. 2 Cream butter and sugar. Mix in milk, salt, and beaten eggs.
  3. 3 Combine mixture with sponge. Let rise for 1 hour.
  4. 4 Knead, shape into buns, and arrange close together in a pan. Let rise until very light.
  5. 5 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) until done.
