Basic Pie Crust
Ingredients
- 5 tablespoons shortening
- 3 tablespoons ice water
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup pastry flour
- 2 tablespoons flour (for dusting)
Method
- 1 In a mixing bowl, combine shortening, ice water, and salt. Work with a wooden spoon until creamy.
- 2 Add pastry flour and mix by cutting in with a knife until combined.
- 3 Dust a pastry cloth or board with 2 tablespoons flour. Pat and roll the dough to fit a large pie plate.
- 4 Line the pie plate with the pastry and build up a fluted rim.
