Basic Pie Crust

Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons shortening
  • 3 tablespoons ice water
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup pastry flour
  • 2 tablespoons flour (for dusting)

Method

  1. 1 In a mixing bowl, combine shortening, ice water, and salt. Work with a wooden spoon until creamy.
  2. 2 Add pastry flour and mix by cutting in with a knife until combined.
  3. 3 Dust a pastry cloth or board with 2 tablespoons flour. Pat and roll the dough to fit a large pie plate.
  4. 4 Line the pie plate with the pastry and build up a fluted rim.
