Basic Double Crust Pie Dough

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup shortening
  • Cold water

Method

  1. 1 Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. 2 Add shortening and rub in lightly with fingertips.
  3. 3 Add cold water slowly until dough holds together; do not knead.
  4. 4 Divide dough in half. Roll out one part thinly for the bottom crust.
  5. 5 Fill pie, then roll out the second part for the top crust.
  6. 6 Place top over pie, trim edges, press with a fork, and cut slashes.
  7. 7 Bake in a hot oven (425°F) until golden.
