Basic Double Crust Pie Dough
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup shortening
- Cold water
Method
- 1 Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- 2 Add shortening and rub in lightly with fingertips.
- 3 Add cold water slowly until dough holds together; do not knead.
- 4 Divide dough in half. Roll out one part thinly for the bottom crust.
- 5 Fill pie, then roll out the second part for the top crust.
- 6 Place top over pie, trim edges, press with a fork, and cut slashes.
- 7 Bake in a hot oven (425°F) until golden.
