Banana Cinnamon Hand Pies

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 8 tbsp shortening
  • 1/2 cup ice-cold water
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp butter
  • Cold water for brushing
  • 1 egg, beaten

Method

  1. 1 Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar together in a mixing bowl.
  2. 2 Rub in shortening, then mix with ice-cold water to form a dough.
  3. 3 Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness and cut into 3x6 inch oblongs.
  4. 4 Place peeled banana on each pastry piece; sprinkle with brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and butter.
  5. 5 Brush edges with cold water, fold over banana, and press to seal.
  6. 6 Place seam-side down on greased sheet, brush with beaten egg, and bake at 350°F for 18 minutes.
