Baking Powder Sugar Crullers
Ingredients
- 5 cups sifted flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp baking powder
- 1 ¼ cups sugar
- 3 tbsp shortening
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- oil for frying
Method
- 1 In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar. Rub in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 2 In a separate bowl, beat the egg and mix in the milk. Pour this liquid into the dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms.
- 3 Turn the dough onto a floured surface and roll it out to a thickness of one-half inch.
- 4 Cut the dough into desired shapes using a knife or cutter.
- 5 Fry the crullers in hot fat until golden brown on all sides. Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
