Baking Powder Apple Dumplings
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup butter
- ¼ cup milk
- apples, pared and cored
- sugar
- cinnamon
- egg white or water
- beaten egg for brushing
- cream for serving
Method
- 1 Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
- 2 Cut in butter until fine, then add milk to moisten the dough.
- 3 Roll dough on a floured board to 1/8 inch thickness and cut into squares.
- 4 Fill each square with a cored apple, sugar, and cinnamon; fold corners up and seal with egg white or water.
- 5 Brush with beaten egg and bake in a hot oven (425°F) for about 30 minutes.
- 6 Serve warm with cream.
