Baking Powder Apple Dumplings

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup butter
  • ¼ cup milk
  • apples, pared and cored
  • sugar
  • cinnamon
  • egg white or water
  • beaten egg for brushing
  • cream for serving

Method

  1. 1 Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  2. 2 Cut in butter until fine, then add milk to moisten the dough.
  3. 3 Roll dough on a floured board to 1/8 inch thickness and cut into squares.
  4. 4 Fill each square with a cored apple, sugar, and cinnamon; fold corners up and seal with egg white or water.
  5. 5 Brush with beaten egg and bake in a hot oven (425°F) for about 30 minutes.
  6. 6 Serve warm with cream.
