Baked Vanilla Or Nutmeg Custard
Ingredients
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 quart scalded milk
- Nutmeg or vanilla, for flavoring
Method
- 1 Beat four eggs and stir in sugar and salt.
- 2 Slowly stir in one quart of scalded milk until sugar is dissolved.
- 3 Flavor with nutmeg or vanilla and pour into cups or a bake dish.
- 4 Place in a pan of hot water and bake in a moderate oven (350°F) until a knife inserted comes out clean.
- 5 Ensure the water in the pan does not boil. Serve plain or with caramel sauce.
