Baked Vanilla Or Nutmeg Custard

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 quart scalded milk
  • Nutmeg or vanilla, for flavoring

Method

  1. 1 Beat four eggs and stir in sugar and salt.
  2. 2 Slowly stir in one quart of scalded milk until sugar is dissolved.
  3. 3 Flavor with nutmeg or vanilla and pour into cups or a bake dish.
  4. 4 Place in a pan of hot water and bake in a moderate oven (350°F) until a knife inserted comes out clean.
  5. 5 Ensure the water in the pan does not boil. Serve plain or with caramel sauce.
