Baked Vanilla Custard With Caramel
Ingredients
- 6 large eggs
- 6 tablespoons sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups milk
- 6 tablespoons sugar (for caramel)
Method
- 1 Beat eggs, 6 tablespoons sugar, salt, and vanilla in a bowl.
- 2 Scald milk, then slowly pour into egg mixture while stirring constantly.
- 3 Melt 6 tablespoons sugar in a baking dish until brown (no water).
- 4 Pour custard into caramelized dish. Place in a pan of hot water.
- 5 Bake in a slow oven (300°F) for 45+ minutes until set. Do not boil water.
- 6 Cool completely, then invert onto a serving dish.
