Baked Vanilla Caramel Custard
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup water
- 1 quart milk
- 6 eggs
- 4 tablespoonfuls sugar
- 1 teaspoonful vanilla extract
Method
- 1 Boil 1 cup sugar with ½ cup water until light brown, then pour into a pudding dish.
- 2 Mix 1 quart milk, 6 eggs, 4 tablespoonfuls sugar, and 1 teaspoonful vanilla extract.
- 3 Pour egg mixture into the caramel-lined dish and set in a pan of water.
- 4 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) until custard is set.
- 5 Remove and chill on ice for several hours before turning out onto a serving dish.
