Baked Sardines With Tomato Sauce
Ingredients
- drained sardines
- lemon juice
- cracker crumbs
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 cup tomato juice
- salt
- pepper
- grated onion
- sugar
- brown bread slices
Method
- 1 Marinate drained sardines in lemon juice, then drain and sprinkle with cracker crumbs.
- 2 Place sardines in a hot oven (425°F) for 10 minutes.
- 3 Melt butter and flour together in a saucepan. Add tomato juice and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- 4 Season the sauce with salt, pepper, grated onion, and sugar to taste.
- 5 Arrange sardines on toasted brown bread strips, pour the sauce over, and serve immediately.
