Baked Salsify With White Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked salsify
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 1/2 cups white sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Butter for greasing dish

Method

  1. 1 Cook salsify: scrape, slice, boil in salted water until tender, then drain.
  2. 2 Grease a baking dish. Sprinkle a layer of bread crumbs on the bottom.
  3. 3 Add a layer of cooked salsify, then season with salt and pepper.
  4. 4 Add remaining salsify, season again, then pour white sauce over everything.
  5. 5 Top with remaining bread crumbs and bake in a hot oven (425°F) until browned and heated through.
