Baked Rump Steak And Shallot Pie

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs rump steak, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 6 shallots, finely chopped
  • 1/2 oz mixed pepper and salt
  • 1/4 cup mushroom ketchup
  • 1/4 cup gravy or red wine
  • Optional: Large oysters, parboiled and bearded

Method

  1. 1 Chop the shallots finely and mix with the pepper and salt.
  2. 2 Layer the steak pieces in a baking dish, sprinkling the seasoning mixture between each layer.
  3. 3 Pour the mushroom ketchup and gravy (or red wine) over the top.
  4. 4 Cover the dish and bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 2 hours.
