  • 1 large spoonful butter
  • corn meal
  • salt
  • sliced cheese
  • butter

Method

  1. 1 Wet corn meal with cold water in a bowl, add salt, and stir until smooth.
  2. 2 Bring a quart of water with a large spoonful of butter to a boil.
  3. 3 Add the corn meal mixture to the boiling water, stirring continually until thick and done.
  4. 4 Shape the polenta into a ball, let it cool completely, then slice thinly.
  5. 5 Layer slices of polenta, cheese, and butter bits in a deep dish, repeating until full.
  6. 6 Top with cheese and butter slices, then bake in a hot oven (425°F) for 20-30 minutes.
