Baked Oysters With Cream Sauce
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup cream
- 3 tablespoons sherry
- 1 teaspoon anchovy paste
- dash red pepper
- grated lemon peel
- 1 quart oysters
- salt and pepper
- grated cheese
- dried bread crumbs
Method
- 1 Combine butter, cream, sherry, anchovy paste, red pepper, and lemon peel in a baking dish. Heat thoroughly without boiling.
- 2 Remove half the sauce and set aside. Add oysters to the dish, then season with salt, pepper, grated cheese, and bread crumbs.
- 3 Pour the remaining sauce over the oysters. Top with more cheese and bread crumbs.
- 4 Bake in a very hot oven (425°F) until heated through. Serve immediately.
