Baked Onions With Bread Crumbs
Ingredients
- onions, peeled
- 1/2 tsp salt
- butter
- pepper
- milk
- fine bread crumbs
Method
- 1 Peel onions, cover with boiling water, and boil for 10 minutes. Drain.
- 2 Return onions to boiling water with 1/2 tsp salt and cook until tender. Drain carefully.
- 3 Place onions in a baking dish. Top each with a pat of butter, then season with pepper and salt.
- 4 Pour milk into the dish until half full. Sprinkle a layer of fine bread crumbs on top.
- 5 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) until the top is delicately browned.
