Baked Onions With Bread Crumbs

Ingredients

  • onions, peeled
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • butter
  • pepper
  • milk
  • fine bread crumbs

Method

  1. 1 Peel onions, cover with boiling water, and boil for 10 minutes. Drain.
  2. 2 Return onions to boiling water with 1/2 tsp salt and cook until tender. Drain carefully.
  3. 3 Place onions in a baking dish. Top each with a pat of butter, then season with pepper and salt.
  4. 4 Pour milk into the dish until half full. Sprinkle a layer of fine bread crumbs on top.
  5. 5 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) until the top is delicately browned.
