Baked Nut Loaf
Ingredients
- 1½ cups nut meats, chopped fine
- 1 cup stale bread crumbs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sweet herbs
- Boiling water, as needed
- 1 cup hot water
- Butter or oil, for greasing pan
- Brown sauce or mayonnaise, for serving
Method
- 1 Chop nut meats finely to measure 1½ cups. Combine with bread crumbs, salt, and sweet herbs in a bowl.
- 2 Add enough boiling water to moisten the mixture. Cover closely and let stand for 10 minutes to swell.
- 3 Stir in 1 cup of hot water. Turn the mixture into a well-greased loaf pan.
- 4 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for one hour. Serve hot with brown sauce or cold with mayonnaise.
