Baked Nut Loaf

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups nut meats, chopped fine
  • 1 cup stale bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sweet herbs
  • Boiling water, as needed
  • 1 cup hot water
  • Butter or oil, for greasing pan
  • Brown sauce or mayonnaise, for serving

Method

  1. 1 Chop nut meats finely to measure 1½ cups. Combine with bread crumbs, salt, and sweet herbs in a bowl.
  2. 2 Add enough boiling water to moisten the mixture. Cover closely and let stand for 10 minutes to swell.
  3. 3 Stir in 1 cup of hot water. Turn the mixture into a well-greased loaf pan.
  4. 4 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for one hour. Serve hot with brown sauce or cold with mayonnaise.
