Baked Mushroom Turnovers

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb medium-sized mushrooms
  • 1 oz butter
  • Pepper and salt to taste
  • 1/2 lb Allinson fine wheatmeal
  • 3 oz butter (or 3 tbsp Allinson frying oil)
  • Water, for pastry

Method

  1. 1 Prepare the pastry by mixing the wheatmeal, butter, and a little water until combined.
  2. 2 Pick, wash, and chop the mushrooms. Dredge with pepper and salt, then fry in 1 oz butter for 5-10 minutes.
  3. 3 Roll out the paste and cut into 4-inch squares. Place mushroom filling on each square.
  4. 4 Fold the squares into triangles, pressing edges to seal. Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 1 hour.
  5. 5 Serve with brown gravy.
