Baked Huckleberry Biscuits With Berry Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 cup huckleberries
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 cup flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon shortening
- ½ cup milk
- 2 tablespoons water
- Butter, for biscuits
- Hard sauce, for serving
Method
- 1 Pick over and wash berries. Place in a small saucepan with 2 tablespoons of water and bring to a boil.
- 2 Add 3 tablespoons of sugar to the berries and boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
- 3 Sift together 1 cup flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and ¼ teaspoon salt.
- 4 Mix in 1 teaspoon shortening lightly. Add ½ cup milk slowly and stir until combined.
- 5 Take a teaspoonful of dough at a time, roll into balls with floured hands, and place on a floured pie tin.
- 6 Bake in a 425°F oven for about 12 minutes.
- 7 While warm, break biscuits in half, butter each half, and place in a dish. Pour the warm berry mixture over the top. Serve hot with hard sauce.
