Baked Eggs With Gruyere And Cream

Ingredients

  • butter for greasing
  • thin slices fresh Gruyère cheese
  • fresh eggs
  • grated nutmeg
  • pepper
  • salt
  • ½ cup cream
  • grated Gruyère cheese

Method

  1. 1 Rub a stoneware platter thickly with butter and cover it with thin slices of fresh Gruyère cheese.
  2. 2 Break fresh eggs upon the cheese and sprinkle with grated nutmeg, pepper, and salt.
  3. 3 Pour half a cupful of cream over the eggs and sprinkle with grated cheese.
  4. 4 Bake for about 15 minutes in a hot oven (425°F).
  5. 5 Serve on the same platter on which the eggs were baked.
