Baked Date Custard With Rose Water
Ingredients
- 1 pint heavy cream
- 8 dates, minced
- 4 eggs
- 1 tbsp butter, for greasing dish
- 1 tsp rose water
- 1 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
- 1 pinch mace
- 1 pinch salt
- Puff pastry sheet (optional)
- Granulated sugar, for sprinkling
Method
- 1 Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a baking dish with butter.
- 2 Warm the cream in a saucepan. Stir in the minced dates.
- 3 Whisk eggs with rose water, nutmeg, mace, and salt. Temper by slowly adding warm cream mixture.
- 4 Pour mixture into the prepared dish. Top with puff pastry and sprinkle with sugar if using.
- 5 Bake for 30-35 minutes until set and golden brown.
