  • 1 pint heavy cream
  • 8 dates, minced
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tbsp butter, for greasing dish
  • 1 tsp rose water
  • 1 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1 pinch mace
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Puff pastry sheet (optional)
  • Granulated sugar, for sprinkling

Method

  1. 1 Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. 2 Warm the cream in a saucepan. Stir in the minced dates.
  3. 3 Whisk eggs with rose water, nutmeg, mace, and salt. Temper by slowly adding warm cream mixture.
  4. 4 Pour mixture into the prepared dish. Top with puff pastry and sprinkle with sugar if using.
  5. 5 Bake for 30-35 minutes until set and golden brown.
