  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 ¼ cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 5 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp shortening
  • 4 tbsp syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ½ cups milk

Method

  1. 1 Combine cornmeal, flour, salt, baking powder, shortening, syrup, egg, and milk in a mixing bowl. Beat hard to mix.
  2. 2 Pour batter into well-greased square pans.
  3. 3 Bake in a hot oven (425°F) for 35 minutes.
