Baked Chocolate Meringue Hearts
Ingredients
- 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate
- 1 pound sifted powdered sugar
- 3 egg whites, unbeaten
- Vanilla extract to flavor
- Granulated sugar for rolling
Method
- 1 Melt chocolate over hot water.
- 2 Mix in powdered sugar until thoroughly combined.
- 3 Work in egg whites and vanilla to form a stiff, pliable paste.
- 4 Roll paste to 1/4-inch thickness on a surface dusted with granulated sugar.
- 5 Cut into heart shapes and place on lightly oiled pans.
- 6 Bake in a very moderate oven (300°F) until firm to the touch and a solid crust forms.
- 7 Cool briefly before removing from pans.
