Baked Chocolate Custard With Meringue
Ingredients
- 4 heaping tablespoons grated bitter chocolate
- 1 quart hot milk
- 6 egg yolks
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Water for bain-marie
- Meringue topping
Method
- 1 Dissolve the grated chocolate in the hot milk.
- 2 Beat egg yolks with sugar and vanilla, then stir into the chocolate milk.
- 3 Pour into custard cups placed in a baking dish with an inch of hot water.
- 4 Bake in a slow oven (300°F) until set.
- 5 Top with meringue and return to oven until puffed and brown.
- 6 Serve cold.
