  • 1/2 cup fat
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup grated cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • buttered crumbs (optional)

Method

  1. 1 Melt fat in a saucepan and stir in flour, cayenne, and salt.
  2. 2 Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until the mixture boils.
  3. 3 Remove from heat and stir in the grated cheese until melted.
  4. 4 Pour the sauce over the cooked cabbage in a greased baking dish.
