Baked Celery Casserole With Breadcrumbs

Ingredients

  • 2 heads celery
  • 1/2 pint milk
  • 1 oz butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. 1 Cut celery into pieces and boil in water for 10 minutes. Drain well.
  2. 2 Place celery in a stewpan with 1/2 oz butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Simmer gently until tender.
  3. 3 Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Stir in the beaten egg.
  4. 4 Butter a shallow dish and coat with half the breadcrumbs. Pour in the celery mixture.
  5. 5 Top with remaining breadcrumbs and small bits of butter. Bake until browned.
