Baked Celery Casserole With Breadcrumbs
Ingredients
- 2 heads celery
- 1/2 pint milk
- 1 oz butter
- 1 egg
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- salt and pepper to taste
Method
- 1 Cut celery into pieces and boil in water for 10 minutes. Drain well.
- 2 Place celery in a stewpan with 1/2 oz butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Simmer gently until tender.
- 3 Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Stir in the beaten egg.
- 4 Butter a shallow dish and coat with half the breadcrumbs. Pour in the celery mixture.
- 5 Top with remaining breadcrumbs and small bits of butter. Bake until browned.
