Baked Apples With Caramel Sauce And Almonds
Ingredients
- 4 apples, peeled and cored
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup sugar
- juice of ½ lemon
- 1 tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot
- 1 tbsp water (for slurry)
- sugar for sprinkling
- split almonds (optional)
Method
- 1 Place apples in a pot with 1 cup water, ½ cup sugar, and lemon juice. Boil until tender but holding shape.
- 2 Remove apples and drain. Arrange them on a serving dish.
- 3 Boil the remaining liquid in the pot until reduced by half.
- 4 Whisk cornstarch with 1 tbsp water to make a slurry. Stir into the boiling liquid and cook until thick and clear.
- 5 Pour sauce over apples. Sprinkle with sugar and almonds, then bake at 350°F for a few minutes to brown.
