Baked Apples With Caramel Sauce And Almonds

Ingredients

  • 4 apples, peeled and cored
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup sugar
  • juice of ½ lemon
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot
  • 1 tbsp water (for slurry)
  • sugar for sprinkling
  • split almonds (optional)

Method

  1. 1 Place apples in a pot with 1 cup water, ½ cup sugar, and lemon juice. Boil until tender but holding shape.
  2. 2 Remove apples and drain. Arrange them on a serving dish.
  3. 3 Boil the remaining liquid in the pot until reduced by half.
  4. 4 Whisk cornstarch with 1 tbsp water to make a slurry. Stir into the boiling liquid and cook until thick and clear.
  5. 5 Pour sauce over apples. Sprinkle with sugar and almonds, then bake at 350°F for a few minutes to brown.
