Baked Apple Pie With Lemon Nutmeg Sauce
Ingredients
- 4 cups flour
- 2 heaping teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- ½ cup butter
- milk, as needed
- apples, peeled, cored, and quartered
- sugar for sweetening apples
- spice for sprinkling apples
- syrup
- cornstarch
- lemon juice
- grated lemon peel
- butter
- grated nutmeg or other spice
Method
- 1 Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- 2 Work in butter and add enough milk to form a dough.
- 3 Roll out half the dough and line a deep buttered baking dish.
- 4 Fill with sweetened, spiced peeled, cored, and quartered apples.
- 5 Cover with remaining dough rolled into a crust.
- 6 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 2.5 hours.
- 7 Prepare sauce by thickening syrup with cornstarch and seasoning with lemon juice, peel, butter, and nutmeg.
