Baked Apple Dumplings With Cinnamon Sugar
Ingredients
- 5 apples
- 4 tablespoons Crisco
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- Sugar and cinnamon for filling
- Extra Crisco for greasing pan
- Extra sugar for topping
Method
- 1 Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
- 2 Work 4 tablespoons Crisco into the dry ingredients with your fingertips.
- 3 Add milk gradually, mixing with a knife to form a dough.
- 4 Roll dough 1/2 inch thick and cut into squares.
- 5 Place a pared and cored apple in the center of each square.
- 6 Fill the center with sugar and cinnamon, then pinch the corners of the dough together.
- 7 Place dumplings in a greased baking pan, dot with sugar and Crisco.
- 8 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 25 minutes or until nicely browned.
- 9 Serve hot with milk.
