Baked Alaska

Ingredients

  • 1-2 quarts vanilla ice cream
  • 6 egg whites
  • 6 tbsp powdered sugar

Method

  1. 1 Pack vanilla ice cream into a brick mold. Cover with paper, wrap in wax paper, and freeze in salt and ice for at least 2 hours.
  2. 2 Beat 6 egg whites to a froth. Add 6 tbsp powdered sugar and beat until fine and dry to form a meringue.
  3. 3 Turn the frozen ice cream onto a serving platter placed on a thick board. Cover the ice cream completely with the meringue.
  4. 4 Dust thickly with powdered sugar and brown lightly under a broiler or in a hot oven. Serve immediately.
