Apple Meringue With Custard Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 pint apple sauce (made from tart cooking apples, slightly sweetened)
- 4 egg whites
- 1 ¼ cups sugar
- A few drops lemon extract
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 pint milk
- Vanilla extract to taste
Method
- 1 Preheat oven to 350°F. Place the prepared apple sauce into a pudding dish.
- 2 Beat the egg whites to a stiff froth. Stir in the sugar and lemon extract until combined.
- 3 Spread the meringue mixture evenly over the apple sauce in the dish.
- 4 Bake for 20-25 minutes until the meringue is set.
- 5 While baking, whisk egg yolks with milk, sugar, and vanilla to make a custard sauce.
- 6 Serve the cold meringue dish with the custard sauce on the side.
