Apple Layer Cake With Lemon Filling

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 3 eggs, whites and yolks beaten separately
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 apples, grated
  • Zest and juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 egg

Method

  1. 1 Beat butter and sugar until creamy.
  2. 2 Add egg yolks and milk, then mix in flour.
  3. 3 Fold in beaten egg whites gently.
  4. 4 Divide batter into two pans and bake at 350°F.
  5. 5 Cook grated apples with lemon juice and egg until thickened.
  6. 6 Cool filling, spread between cake layers.
