Apple Fritters
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon melted Crisco
- 3/4 cup milk
- 3 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/4-inch pieces
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- Juice of 1 lemon
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for garnish
Method
- 1 Peel, core, and slice apples into 1/4-inch pieces. Toss with 2 tablespoons sugar and lemon juice.
- 2 Sift flour, baking powder, remaining sugar, and salt into a bowl. Whisk egg and milk, then stir into dry ingredients until smooth. Fold in melted Crisco.
- 3 Heat oil in a skillet until a breadcrumb browns in 60 seconds. Dip apple slices in batter and fry in oil for 4-5 minutes until golden.
- 4 Drain fritters on paper towels and sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
